How to Replace a Toyota Key Fob Battery

Then, you can insert the correct type and close the case. If you have a remote tester you can use, you can then test the key fob to determine whether it's functioning.
There is also the possibility that something has occurred to the circuit board inside the fob, making it impossible for it to function properly. This is a little more difficult to determine and fix, however it could be a straightforward fix, like getting water on it that caused it to stop functioning. The electrical signals are transferred through this circuit board, which then responds to the button you press.
The board may also become dirty over time and that's why it's important to clean it often. There are a few ways to do this depending on the material your key fob is made of. You could either remove it to clean the circuit board with a cleaner or use some rubbing alcohol on the contacts. Just be sure to do this carefully and only in areas that are safe to do it.
The final option may be that you need a new fob shell. You can make it yourself, but you'll need a few tools. You'll need to be able pry the case, which could require a screwdriver or some force. You'll then need to buy an additional key fob case, and you'll typically find a low-cost one on the internet.
Broken Key Fob Battery Case
Key fob batteries may stop working or even break. It's easy and cheap to replace the battery on your Toyota key fob. You can buy the replacement battery from your local hardware or home improvement store, or electronics retailer. The fob typically requires a coin-shaped button battery. It should be labeled with the battery's size and include a plus or negative symbol so that you can easily determine which way to insert it into the fob.

Transponder Chip Issues
Transponder chips can malfunction in key fobs. The chips communicate with the vehicle when you insert the key in the ignition. This adds a layer of security and also prevents hot-wiring.
